Richard Proctor

–

Springville, Utah

I don’t know why but my son, Dallas R. Proctor, states I should write down my obituary. As I best recall I was born on October 18, 1938 to my beloved parents, James Franklin Proctor and VaNeta Bertha Branagan Proctor. I grew up surrounded by siblings I adored: James Donald Proctor (Anna Ludlow), Carol Coleen Proctor Ashby (Blaine G. Ashby), Gary Proctor (Rhonda), Phillip C. Proctor (Anita), Margo Proctor Heiner (Dennis Heiner), Debra Proctor Malone (Michael Malone), and my sweet sister Collette Proctor, who passed away at two days old.
I was blessed to be married to the love of my life, Maridean Peterson Proctor, on March 26, 1966 in the Manti temple. Together we built a beautiful family and shared a lifetime of devotion. We had six children: Rashelle Proctor, who passed away at fifteen months; Renee Proctor Wilson; Richard B. Proctor II, who passed at birth; Sondra Proctor Powell (David); and Dallas R. Proctor (Sarah Lee), and an infant lost to miscarriage.
Family is my greatest joy. I am a proud grandfather to ten grandchildren and a great- grandfather to eight great-grandchildren with number nine on the way. I lived a great life. As you read this, I am now happily reunited with my beloved wife and the children who passed all to soon.
Ta Da!
In 2000, Richard wrote a poem expressing the joy his family brought him, this is a short excerpt:

“Oh, the joy my children and grandchildren bring;
it is as though there is an eternal spring.
Hurts and worries all flee away
when my family comes to stay.

My grandchildren, I love when you come to play;
even though this Grandpa sometimes has a bad day.
On our knees we go — to play, to hug, to kiss and roll.
It brightens my day like you will never know.

As you leave for home, I let out a groan and feel alone.
But Grandma tells me to be of good cheer,
because you will soon return to begin again —
playing, hugging, kissing and rolling.

My mind keeps your faces so clear —
Grandma is right.”
