In Loving Memory of Marilyn Gail Fisher Gilbert Selvick Care — July 18, 1951 - March 18, 2026

Marilyn Gail Care passed away peacefully on March 18, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She moved through the world with quiet resourcefulness and a generous spirit, turning simple ingredients into comfort—most memorably through her beloved pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. Her home was a place of open doors and open arms, where every stray animal and wandering heart found a welcome. She stitched together a life rich in resilience, creativity, and warmth—a legacy that lingers on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Born into humble beginnings, in Oliver, British Columbia, to Lester Care and LaVerne Rushton, Gail learned early how to "turn a dime into a dollar," a skill she carried with pride throughout her life. She had a remarkable ability to make something out of nothing, whether in her home or in the lives of those she loved.

As a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Gail’s greatest joy was her family. She delighted in bringing happiness to her children and grandchildren, always ready with a “Grandma joke” or a comforting phone call. She shared a profound bond with her older sister, Vera Darrow, who was her lifelong best friend. Her love of reading was a gift she shared freely; she spent weeks lost in the world of Harry Potter with her granddaughter, Alanna, creating memories etched in opening-night tickets and shared imagination.

Gail followed the lives of her grandchildren with fierce pride. She celebrated Mekhi’s academic triumphs and his willing, helping hand; she cheered from across the country for Asher’s gymnastic feats; and she cherished sun-drenched memories of Disneyland with Jayden. Though her time with Korbin and her great-grandchildren was far too short, we find peace knowing she is making up for lost time now, embracing those who went before her. "She is joyfully reunited with the parents who shaped her life: LaVerne and Glade Waite, Lester Care, and Tony Fisher. She joins her former husbands, William Gilbert and Dale Selvick; her brother, Stuart Fisher; her grandson, Keldin Morgan; and a host of beloved cousins, nephews, and nieces who were undoubtedly waiting to welcome her home."

Gail embraced life’s simple pleasures with infectious enthusiasm. Her creativity shone through her many hobbies, from crafting Cabbage Patch dolls and jewelry to treasure hunting at estate sales. She had a particular weakness for candlesticks, insisting on bringing home every beautiful one she found. Her generosity was equally boundless; she was a dedicated supporter of Sub for Santa and often brought home veterans in need of a meal or work. Just this year, she hand-decorated and delivered 15 Christmas trees to a local veterans' home.

Music was the heartbeat of Gail’s world. She loved attending concerts and musicals with her children and was known to play her favorite songs wherever she went. Even during hospital stays, she became affectionately known as “the lady with the great music,” playing 1950s tunes that brought smiles to the entire staff.

Gail’s compassion extended to all living things. Over her lifetime, she rescued and raised over 100 animals, often saying, "I’ll be getting all my animals back when I get to Heaven." She leaves behind Gidget, her devoted companion of 11 years. In honor of her heart for animals, the family encourages support for local animal shelters.

Gail will be remembered for her laughter, her strength, and the vibrant presence she brought to every room. While her absence is deeply felt, her family finds comfort in knowing she is finally at peace, forever surrounded by love.

She will be dearly missed and never forgotten.
