Kurt Beardall

–

Springville, Utah

My sweetheart was born April 18, 1956 to Gerald (Jerry) Beardall and Colleen (Hutchings) Beardall. He loved to tease his two sisters, Michelle and Lisa. He grew up in a wonderful neighborhood with lots of friends and was always doing something with his family, grandparents, aunts and cousins. That’s where he developed his love for camping, hunting and fishing. Many joyful hours were spent in Idaho. The love of that land lasted his entire life.
He had a love for music and participated in the Hi’s singing group at Springville High School. He loved his high school years and he graduated with high honors (Kidding!) in1974. While in school he discovered his love of wrestling, and wrestling was where “Scurv” was born. He loved that nickname and when he introduced himself that’s the name he used.
After high school he became a cement finisher. It was the perfect job for him because it gave him his winters off. He discovered skiing at that time and that’s where he met Jim Blackett. They became best friends and that friendship lasted his lifetime. The Blackett family became our extended family and our time at the Blackett property was time he cherished. Many a night was spent with their guitars singing around a campfire.
In 1977 I fell head over heels in love with a man with a heart that was as big as his personality and we were married on May 31,1979. Kurt picked up a whole other family. He was blessed to have two families that loved him. My siblings were his siblings. My parent’s were his other parents, my nieces and nephews were his also. We never did the “Inlaw” thing. Family was just family.
In 1980 Kasey, our daughter, was born and I have never seen anyone who took to being a father like he did. At the hospital he told me that being a dad was the best thing he’d ever done and wanted to know if we could have enough kids to have our own baseball team. We compromised and were joined by Danny and Bryan. That is where our adventures really began.
Our family was our life and from the beginning we started making memories.
He was Coach Scurv and coached all of our kids. He may have been a coach because our kids were on the team, but he had a genuine love for coaching and his goal was not to win, his goal was to help shape good human beings and to make playing a positive experience. I never heard him raise his voice to a player and he always praised and encouraged them. He took that same love to the scouting program. He loved his scouts and he loved every campout he had with them. His love of nature and the joy he took in life made a lasting impression.
He was the ultimate family man and his family was always his happy place. We always laughed when people would say “If you think you love your kids, just wait until you have grandkids”. We didn’t think there was any way we could enjoy anything more than raising our three kids. Then in 1999 we added Tyler to our Family. Soon after Dan would marry and we started having grandkids. It was love at first sight and Papa Scurv was born. I really think that was the role he enjoyed the most. We never missed a concert or a ball game, or a performance by any of the grandkids if he could help it. They are the sunshine in our lives and have brought us so much joy and happiness. He was so proud of each and everyone of them. His face would just light up every time he talked about them and we had so many adventures together. There were Disneyland trips, campouts, and vacations galore. He loved sharing Idaho with them. Idaho truly was his happy place.
We have been blessed to be part of many fun family vacations and if Kasey was in charge we always knew we were going to have the best time ever. On our trip to Alaska Kasey and Ty planned a float plane trip where we were able to spend the day up close and personal with Kodiak Bears. I think that was one of the highlights of his life. He just couldn’t get over what an amazing experience that was.
We have been cruising with my family since 1994. On our first trip ever he dressed as Captain Concrete. He wore a leotard, mask and cape and I can still see his silhouette standing by the railing with his cape blowing in the wind. He loved cruising with our family and seeing and experiencing new things and the laughter and memories of the times shared will be with me forever.
Kurt fell in love with motorcycles before he fell in love with me and after forty years of begging I broke down and let him buy a Harley. Who knew that buying a Harley could bring a guy so much happiness. It brought us a whole new group of friends who quickly became our Harley Family. Our road trips together are some of my fondest memories.
My sweetheart always led with his heart. He was always the first one to stop and help a stranger, and he never waited for anyone to ask for help. He always was ready to help with whatever was needed. He truly lived a life of service.
We will miss listening to him sing, watching him dance and just living life to the fullest. The Hobble Wobble won’t be the same without him. When asked how he was doing he always replied “Fantastic!” He really was fantastic and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Kurt is survived by his wife Karrie and their children: Kasey (Tyler) DeMarco, Daniel (Kara) Beardall and Bryan (Chelsea) Beardall. Their ten and a half grandchildren: Brayden, Lexie, Zack, Ally, Austyn, Bailey,Brynlee, Kael, Ethan and Ava. His sisters: Michelle (John) Bird, Lisa (Mark) Nichols and the entire Jensen Clan.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents: Jerry and Colleen Beardall as well as his grandparents.
