Salem, Utah
Dessie Hinkson, a beloved pillar of strength, kindness, and unwavering faith, passed peacefully at home on September 6, 2026. Born to Wilford and Virgil Hunt on September 4, 1932, in Ucon, ID, Dessie spent her early years on a dairy farm in Salem, Utah, where she cultivated a love for family, nature, and hard work. Dessie and her beloved husband, Jimmy, lived in several different states while raising children and pursuing educational and career pathways. Dessie returned to Salem where her spirit will forever be a part of the community she loved so dearly.
Dessie was a heartwarming embodiment of love and perseverance. Married on November 12, 1954, she and her late husband, Jimmy, built a life centered on love, faith, and family. Despite the demands of raising their six remarkable children - Terry, Sharon, Ken, David, Linda, and Mark - Dessie found time to share her talents and energy with the wider community. She served as a kindergarten teacher before becoming a full time homemaker. Dessie's hobbies were as diverse as her interests, and she found joy in painting, crocheting, reading, and completing diamond art projects. Dessie was a competitive game player and an avid sports fan.
A lifelong active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Dessie served in many positions and gave her time and dedication on a full-time mission with her husband in the South Dakota Rapid City Mission. Her faith was an integral part of her life and she lived her belief in service, compassion, and love. Dessie's memory will forever be a beacon of strength and inspiration for all who knew her.
Dessie was preceded in death by her parents, Wilford and Virgil Hunt, infant brother Eldon, infant sister Myrtle, sister Myrna, and brother Joe. She is survived by her children Terry Hinkson (S. Kim), Sharon Gowans (Robert), Ken Hinkson (Elizabeth), David Hinkson (Christy), Linda Stubbs (David), and Mark Hinkson (Danielle), and by 33 grandchildren and 51 great- grandchildren.
